Practical guide

exocad inlay CAD file names

A clear way to organise supported project-named multi-die inlay STL exports without changing their geometry.

Why inlay exports can be difficult to identify

A completed multi-die case may contain several inlay STL exports that share a project name and differ mainly by a position code. That is useful to the software, but it can be less useful to the person opening the case folder later—especially when the useful description is already visible on the tray.

For supported multi-die cases, Multi-Dies Renamed reads the selected completed .dentalProject and matches -inlay_cad.stl exports to the names assigned to their tray positions. The result is a clearer filename based on information that is already in the case.

A simple check before renaming

  1. Confirm the completed .dentalProject is readable.
  2. Confirm the supported inlay exports end in -inlay_cad.stl.
  3. Check that the die-position descriptions are correct.
  4. Review the output preview before running the rename.
  5. Afterwards, verify the filenames and STL geometry before manufacture.

Keep the naming convention flexible

You can choose and order the filename fields to suit the laboratory workflow, including the die number, multi-die name, project name, material and date. The app only names and organises the supported files; it does not edit the STL geometry.
